The Early Years
At the height of the Great Depression, Cletus Merz exercised his entrepreneurial spirit and founded Merz Sheet Metal in 1935. Even with its modest beginning on the north side of the Effingham County courthouse, the business flourished. A mere two years later, Cletus moved his shop to a newly constructed site on South First Street.
Unprecedented Growth
After World War II, during the great building boom of the 50’s, Merz enjoyed unprecedented growth. By 1968, Merz Sheet Metal had become affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Sheet Metal Workers. This strong relationship continues to this day.
Relocation and Expansion
In 1970, Henry Merz joined his father in the business and in 1975 made the decision to relocate to their current facilities and at that time expanded to include a full service residential heating and cooling division. A few years later, Merz also initiated significant efforts with commercial HVAC operations.
Present Day
Today, Merz is owned by Pat Gebben and is recognized as one of the largest, most modern residential and commercial HVAC companies in the state of Illinois.
The Merz mission is to provide their customers with the total indoor comfort by supplying the very best central air installations, service, and maintenance. But above all, Merz works to earn your trust. Because nothing is better than dealing with someone you trust. And nothing is worse than dealing with someone you don’t. It takes years to build trust and only a moment to destroy it. That’s why Merz Heating and Air Conditioning stands by their word and they stand behind their work.
